Don't expect too much from budget hotels in India. The general rule to stay cheap and happy in India is to lower your expectations in comfort and forget about to what you are used to when staying in cheap budget hotels and hostels in Europe, USA or other regions with budget accommodation of western standards. Some of the main tourist districts which posses the widest range of budget hotels in India are the Goa beach resorts. In general beds in those hotels are very hard and not easy for everybody to sleep on. On the other side hotel managers in India are usually very flexible and will provide you with every service that Indian rupees can buy. So if your bed is too uncomfortable, ask for a more blankets or softer mattress.

Quite the reverse to most cities in Europe or the USA when prices become outrages the more popular a place is in India hotels in tourist districts have developed very heavy competition amongst themselves and as a consequence hotels are much cheaper, cleaner and much more comfortable. The more tourists come to visit a certain area or hotel in India the better usually is the service and price.
